This majestic wooden lighthouse model is an imaginative recreation of one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, the giant lighthouse built by Ptolemy I and Ptolemy II in the third century BCE at the western end of the Nile Delta in Egypt. For the first time, the Lighthouse of Alexandria features electrical components that illuminate the model from within, making it a beautiful, warm, and functional night light.

Built from massive stone blocks and standing over 100 meters tall, the Lighthouse of Alexandria was one of the tallest man-made structures in the world. It survived for over a thousand years until a series of earthquakes, the last of which occurred in 1303, caused it to collapse into the sea. Remains of the great lighthouse, including granite blocks, columns, and statues, were rediscovered on the bottom of Alexandria Harbor in 1968 and can still be seen by divers today.

The Ugears Alexandria Lighthouse wooden model kit is based largely on historical archives, making it a fascinating replica ready to assemble. As the Alexandria Lighthouse was dedicated to Zeus, our model is topped with an engraving depicting the king of the gods holding a lightning bolt. Parapets, towers, a walkway, and a dome add architectural interest to the ensemble, with laser engraving that replicates the appearance of stone blocks and shingles. As this is Ugears, this static model also features a moving element: doors in the base, front, and rear that open with rotating knobs.

Made from 3 mm artistic-grade composite wood, the model also incorporates electrical components, light bulbs, and an acrylic lens. Powered by USB-C (via a phone charger) or three AA batteries, with a charging port and on/off switch on the back of the base, your lighthouse model is warmly lit from within by two LED lamps: one at the top that illuminates a flame cut out behind the lens, and one inside the main tower that illuminates the tower’s cross brace. The kit includes natural composite wood parts in laser-cut sheets, electrical components, 2 LED lamps, an acrylic lighthouse lens, as well as a piece of sandpaper and wax to smooth and lubricate the parts.
